CLEVELAND - The Delta State University Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming & Diving programs swam past the Henderson State University Red Wave in a dual meet sweep at the DSU Aquatics Center Saturday.  The Lady Statesmen overwhelmed the Lady Reddies 156-135, while the Statesmen edged the Reddies 144-136.

The Lady Statesmen set the tone early in the first event of the day, placing first in the 200-Medley Relay with a 1:49.55. 
 
All-American Amanda Guidry recorded a D2B qualifying time in the 200-Butterfly with a 2:10.63, while sophomore All-American Mary Katherine Waddell continued the momentum in the 200-Free with a 1:56.60, just edging HSU's Nicole Horne (1:56.65).  

Junior All-American Sam Fajardo also turned in a D2B cut in the 50-Free with a 24.10, and the 100-Free with a 53.02. In both of those races, Fajardo defeated Henderson State's returning All-American Nicole Horn.

Freshmen Hannah Boudreaux and Piper Marshburn also claimed wins in their first career meets, as Boudreaux placed first in the 100-Backstroke with a 1:09.65 and Marshburn earned the win in the 500-Free with a 5:19.26.  

Guidry also swiped the win in the 100-Butterfly, hitting the boards with a 59.11.  

On the men's side, All-American Wolfgang Mairinger (9:58.82), Chris Ashton (10:26.82) and Tucker Marshburn (10:26.92) finished one, two and three in the 1000-Freestyle.

Those three teamed up again in the 500-Freestyle to go first through third. Mairinger touched first with a time of 4:46.42. Next up was Tucker Marshburn at 5:02.70 and third Chris Aston closed out the top three sweep with a time of 5:07.04.

The Ingvoldstad brothers, Steven and Justin, finished first and second in the 50-Freestyle with times of 21.46 and 21.70 respectively.

Adam Dajka won two key events for the Statesmen including a crucial race in the  200-Individual Medley to seal the deal for Delta State.

Coach Brian Hein was very pleased with his team's start to the season.

"Both our Men's and Womens teams had tough challenges today," he said. "Both teams faced teams what we believe will be in the Top 15 (team) at Nationals and came out with wins. We were able to overcome having only one female and no male divers today. Our teams swam hard and finished their swims well today."

The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen swim again November 7th at home against Centenary College starting at 7pm.
