The Lady Statesmen improved to 5-1 on the season with two wins at the Super 8 Classic in Monticello, Ark., winning the rematch with Drury 6-4 and defeating Missouri Southern State University 5-1.
Kate Moreland earned her first win of the season, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Brooke Allgood earned the save, allowing one hit before retiring the last two batters.
Brittany Tillery provided the offense for the Lady Statesmen, hitting her second grand slam of the season in the bottom of the second inning to give the Lady Statesmen a 5-2 lead.
Drury threatened to take the lead in the top of the seventh, plating two runs before Allgood closed the door.
Against MSSU,
Edie Oliver (3-0) took a perfect game into the sixth inning before allowing a hit, and Missouri Southern broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh with one run, but it wasn't enough.
Delta State broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, taking advantage of timely hitting and mistakes made in the field.
The Lady Statesmen will finish play at the Super 8 Classic Sunday, Feb. 15, with a game against Quincy University at noon and Missouri Southern State at 2:00 p.m.
