Lady Statesmen extend home winning to 32; defeat CBU 66-37

CLEVELAND-The Delta State University Lady Statesmen earned their second win in a row and extended their home winning streak to 32 following a 66-37 win over Christian Brothers Saturday afternoon at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Lady Statesmen also hosted the seventh annual “Pink Out Walter Sillers” in support the WCBA's Pink Zone Cancer Initiative. 

Delta State improves to 19-6 on the season, and a GSC West division leading 9-1, while CBU falls to 8-15, and 1-9 in GSC action. 

The Lady Statesmen shot 40 percent for the game (22-of-55), despite shooting 5-of-10 from distance. The Lady Bucs were held to 32 percent and had few opportunities from long range, shooting 3-of-11. 

Delta State had every player score at least one point in the game, while outscoring the visitors off the bench 34-8. 

Delta State shot 40 percent in the first half, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, while holding Christian Brothers to 36 percent. The battle however was in the paint, both teams racking up 14 points down low. 

The Lady Statesmen also made the most of their free-throws going 10-of-12 from the line.
Shameka Russell, knocking down nine points at the break to lead all scorers, she was 3-of-3 from down town. 

CBU didn't have many chances at the line and were held to 1-of-3 from distance. They trailed 36-18 at the break. 

LaMaesha McAdory scored a game-high 14 points with three rebounds. Veronica Walker finished with eight points and a team-high six boards.  Bug Cooper finished with six points and nine assists. 

Sheena DeBose led the Lady Bucs with 12 points. 

Delta State will remain at home next Thursday Feb. 19, as they battle Southern Arkansas. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
