Lady Statesmen run past Lady Riders 82-44

CLEVELAND – The Delta State University women's basketball team turned in their best conference offensive output of the season in an 82-44 victory over Southern Arkansas Thursday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

Delta State earns their third-straight victory with the win and improves to 20-6 on the season and a GSC West leading 10-1, while Southern Arkansas falls to 8-16 and 2-9 in conference play.

The Lady Statesmen shot 65 percent for the game (22-of-40), including 36-of-33 from the line. Every player on the roster had at least three points on the night, as Delta State racked up 48 points off the bench and held SAU to 34 percent in the game.

Bug Cooper finished with 12 assists on the night, improving her season total to an NCAA leading 202.

The Lady Statesmen had four players finish in double figures led by Veronica Walker with 14. LaMaesha McAdory added 13 and Shameka Russell dropped in 11.

The Lady Statesmen jumped out to a fast start Thursday against the Lady Rider, shooting 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the floor to lead 43-14 at the half. SAU managed just 23.8 percent at the break on 5-of-21 shooting. DSU was a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe, while SAU was 1-of-2 and 3-of-4 respectively.

Delta State's LaMaesha McAdory led all scorers with 13 points. Bug Cooper dished out seven assists in the half.

Kmaria Hobbs led SAU with seven points at the break.

The Lady Statesmen travel to Arkansas Tech Saturday for a Gulf South Conference showdown at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Ark. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting at 3:45 p.m. with the “SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report.”
