Bell's 19 lead Lady Statesmen past Harding 71-57

CLEVELAND- Sophomore guard Moe Bell shot 5-of-7 from three point range to lead the Delta State University women's basketball team to 71-57 win over Harding University Thursday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum. 

The win makes it even sweeter for the four seniors who were honored before the game; Kirsten McBride, LaMaesha McAdory, Courtney Wilson and Renita Jones played their final regular season home game for the green-and-white. 

The win extends their current streak to five games and also extends their home winning streak to 33. The Lady Statesmen are now 22-6 on the season, and 12-1 in GSC play, while the Lady Bison falls to 19-8, and 5-8 in conference play. 

Delta State shot 53 percent for the game, including 6-of-11 from downtown. Delta State turned up the heat in the second half off the bench and scored an impressive 36 points inside the paint. 

Harding shot better in the second half, but was held to 39 percent shooting for the game. 

Bell's five three pointers was the third highest total of the season, as she led the Lady Statesmen with 19 points on the night. LaMaesha McAdory finished with another double-double knocking down 11 points and 10 rebounds. Bug Cooper dished out 15 assists, her second highest total on the year. 

Catherine McMenamy led the Lady Bison with 14 points. 

The Lady Statesmen shot nearly 50 percent in the opening half, knocking down 12-of-25 from the floor while holding the Lady Bison to just 30 percent. 

Delta State was able to convert five points off nine turnovers, while cleaning the glass 21-15. Moe Bell was hot off the bench, making 4-of-5 including 2-of-3 from distance to lead the home team with 10 points at the break. 

Lindsey Root knocked down 11 points in the first; however Harding trailed 33-25. 

Delta State will close out the regular season on the road against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark., this Saturday at Duke Wells Center. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
