PENSACOLA, Fla. - After scoring first witha run in the top of the first inning, the Lady Statesmen fell to West Florida 6-2, getting only six hits off of West Florida pitcher Jill LaFrance.
The Lady Argo ace kept her record perfect, improving to 6-0 on the season after holding the Lady Statesmen to two runs, one earned.
West Florida (9-2) plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead and never looked back. The Lady Argos added four more runs over the next five innings, led by Sarah Garcia's 1-for-3 performance with two RBIs, including a sacrifice fly.
Brittany Tillery scored first for the Lady Statesmen (11-4) on
Courtney Clark's two-out, RBI single back up the middle.
Chelsea Carr added the only other Delta State run in the top of the fourth inning when an errant throw sailed wide of third base in an attempt to get her out after
Kristi Basso's groundout.
Edie Oliver (7-2) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits with one strikeout and five walks.
Game two of the scheduled double-header was postponed due to rain. The Lady Statesmen will face the Lady Argos again Sunday, March 1, with a double-header at 9:00 a.m.
