Lady Statesmen split opening GSC series at Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The Lady Statesmen split their Gulf South Conference opening weekend at Ouachita Baptist, taking the final two games 2-1 and 3-1 in 10 innings, while losing Saturday's double-header 2-0 and 6-5 in nine innings. 

Brooke Allgood was the hero in game one Sunday, blasting a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Kate Moreland was stellar in the circle, allowing just one run to the Lady Tigers (15-18, 4-7 GSC) on two hits with two strikeouts in seven innings, improving her record to 2-1. 

Kristen Rigsbee (9-8) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in seven innings. Sarah Bell had the Lady Tigers lone RBI when she drove in Taylor Austin with a sacrifice fly. 

Courtney Clark followed Allgood's game one heroics with a game-winning two-run home run in the top of the tenth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie. Edie Oliver (8-5) allowed just one run on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in ten innings. 

Rigsbee (9-9) was again charged with the loss after pitching the final two innings. She allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout. 

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers took both games when Rigsbee allowed just three hits to the Lady Statesmen, and followed it up with a win in game two, pitching the final 2.1 innings without allowing a hit.
Moreland was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk.

The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and tied the game with two in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Lady Statesmen failed to convert with runners on second and third and one out in the top of the eighth inning, but Jana Deen drove in the winning run for OBU in the bottom of the ninth. 

Allgood (3-4) was charged with the loss, allowing one run on four hits in 3.2 innings of relief. 

The Lady Statesmen will be in action again Tuesday, March 24, when they travel to Magnolia, Ark., to take on the Lady Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University. The double-header is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
