Lady Statesmen take two from Henderson State, 1-0 and 5-3

CLEVELAND – The Lady Statesmen got 10 scoreless innings from pitcher Edie Oliver, and took advantage of seven Henderson State errors to take the first two of a four game series from Lady Reddies 1-0 and 5-3. 

Despite being out-hit 12-4 in the second game, the Lady Statesmen scored three unearned runs on four errors, and Chelsea Carr hit her first-career home run, a solo shot to leftfield, to take the victory. 

Oliver (14-7) came into the game in the top of the fifth with the score tied 3-3 and allowed just three more hits to earn her second win of the day. 

Patti Collins (8-13) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. 

In the opener, Oliver allowed just two hits in seven innings with four strikeouts. Brittany Tillery singled to lead off the first inning, stole second, went to third on Brittany Eikner's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Brooke Allgood's RBI-single with two outs for the game's only run. 

Melissa Decker (8-15) took the loss, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
With the wins, Delta State improved to 21-15 overall and 9-7 in the Gulf South Conference, while Henderson State fell to 16-28 and 5-15 in GSC play. 

The two teams will square off again Saturday, April 11 with a double-header scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
