CLEVELAND – The Lady Statesmen scored their first run in three games in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI-single by
Chelsea Carr, but it wasn't enough as Arkansas Tech plated one in the top of the eighth inning to sweep the season series 5-0 and 2-1.
Kate Moreland (4-6) was charged with the loss for the Lady Statesmen (25-21, 13-13 Gulf South Conference), allowing two unearned runs on six hits and a walk in eight innings.
Morgan Rodgers (14-10) was credited with the win for Arkansas Tech (35-19, 16-8 GSC) after starting the game, and coming back in to finish the seventh and eighth innings. She allowed just one run on two hits with one strikeout in 5.2 split innings.
Edie Oliver (17-10) was charged with the loss in game one, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts in five innings.
Casey Hammons (16-6) earned the win, keeping the Lady Statesmen scoreless on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
The Lady Statesmen committed five errors and were out-hit 16-11 in the two games.
Delta State will travel to Magnolia, Ark., where the Lady Statesmen will close out the regular season with a four-game set against Southern Arkansas University. The first double-header is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at 3:00 p.m.
