DECATUR, Ala. – Senior centerfielder
Brittany Tillery attempted to light the fire with a leadoff solo-home run in the top of the first inning, but the cold streak continued for the Lady Statesmen at the Gulf South Conference Softball Crossover as Delta State (17-14, 6-6 GSC) fell to the West Georgia Wolves (23-18, 7-6 GSC) 7-3.
Kacie Crider allowed just one more run over the next five innings to improve to 14-8 on the season. The West Georgia hurler allowed two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings, and Haley Dunn allowed a run on two hits before closing out the Lady Statesmen in the seventh.
After the Lady Statesmen took the lead in the first, Kara Pollock hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, and Lindsy Kragt hit an RBI-single to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead.
Delta State cut the lead to two in the top of the third when
Courtney Clark hit a bloop-single with the bases loaded, but the Lady Statesmen couldn't get anything else in the inning.
West Georgia scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
The Lady Statesmen will close out the GSC Crossover Monday, April 6, when they take on West Florida at 10:00 a.m. and North Alabama at noon.
