CLEVELAND -
The Delta State University Statesmen (10-3, 1-0 GSC) continue Gulf South Conference play this week with a pair of games against West Division foes - Arkansas-Monticello (6-5, 1-0 GSC) and Christian Brothers (10-4, 0-1 GSC). DSU travels to UAM on Thursday, Jan. 14 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Steelman Fieldhouse, while hosting CBU on Saturday, Jan. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Sillers Coliseum.

The Statesmen have played well of late, winning four in a row, including a 67-62 road victory at Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 9 at Bill Vining Arena. DSU erased a six-point deficit with 1:52 remaining behind the play of Jeremie Davis, who finished with a game-high 23 points in the win.

Jeremie Davis, a 6-foot-5 junior shooting guard from Arcadia, La., was named the GSC West Division Player of the Week for the period ending Monday, Jan. 11 on Wednesday. The slick-shooting guard also led the Statesmen to an 82-48 win at Concordia College-Selma with a career-high 27 points and eight rebounds.

Chad Akins, a 6-foot senior point guard from Madison, continues to chase the DSU record for career assists. Entering this week's games versus UAM and CBU, Akins has 470 assists, needing just 80 dimes to break Scott Nagy's school record (549).

Both games will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to tip-off with the "SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report."  Jimmy Smith, J.T. Webb and Alan Wiederhold will have the call.
