CLEVELAND-Matt Baker scored his second goal of the season in the 88th minute, but his efforts came a bit to late, as the Lyon College Scots hung on to defeat the Statesmen 2-1, Wednesday at Delta Field.
Both teams showed determination on the defense, in the tightly played contest, which was scoreless at halftime.
Robert Hall opened the scoring in the 84th minute for the Scots (8-3-0) with a shot from the right side that snuck past DSU keeper
Flavio Romero.
Less than one minute later, Martel Reid-Warden blasted home his 10th tally of the season for the Scots, giving his side the 2-0 lead.
Baker got his team back into the game three minutes later, as he followed his own blocked shot with a rebound goal.
The Statesmen (4-9-0) were outshot 11-10. The teams combined for only seven shots on goal in the match, with LC taking four of those.
DSU will travel to Pensacola, Fla., on Sun. Oct. 17 to take on the University of West Florida.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
