Statesmen comeback bid falls short at UWF

Jeremy Bozdeck tied the game at two before UWF pushed home a late game-winner
PENSACOLA, Fla.-The University of West Florida Argonauts scored two first half goals, and added a late winner in the second half to defeat the Delta State University Statesmen 3-2 on Sunday.

After giving up the two first half goals the Statesmen showed their mettle, as they scored two second half goals to tie the match, but UWF's Daniel Martini scored with just under six minutes remaining for the game-winner.

The Argos (8-4-2, 5-0) struck in the 16th minute with a free-kick goal from Stephen Munoz that beat DSU keeper Jack Wucher. A little over three minutes later, Will Henderson scored to put the Argos up 2-0.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, Eljay Allen knocked home a rebound after Adam Brundles' shot went off the crossbar. The goal was Allens' third of the season.

Allen made his mark again in the 76th minute with a corner kick that found the head of Jeremy Bozdeck.

With the score tied at 2-2, Martini found the back of the net after a pass from Frank Cope wide open outside the box for the shot.

The Statesmen (4-10-0, 1-3) were outshot 25-8. Five of the eight shots were on target.

Jack Wucher had a solid game for the Statesmen, filling in for Flavio Romero in goal. Wucher stoped five UWF shots in the game.

The Statesmen will play their final Gulf South Conference match of the season Friday, Oct. 22, asa they travel to Huntsville, Ala., to take on the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers.
