Statesmen end season on a sour note

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-The Delta State University soccer team allowed a goal with only five minutes remaining, falling 1-0 to Christian Brothers in a non-conference matchup, Sunday in Memphis.

After being defeated by the Statesmen 1-0 earlier in the season for the first time in school history, CBU looked to extract revenge on the Statesmen.

The two sides played rock solid defense for a majority of the contest, Andrew Ballard headed in the game-winner in the 86th minute.

DSU was outshot 27-8 in the contest, but both teams recorded seven shots on goal.

CBU also recorded a whopping 17-1 edge on corner kicks.

Jack Wucher was solid in goal, with six saves for the Statesmen, while Daniel Johnson had seven stops in the shutout effort.

Joel Salazar recorded four of the seven Statesmen shots on goal.

The Statesmen finish their season with a 5-11 mark overall, with a 1-4 record in Gulf South Conference play.
