CLEVELAND –
The Delta State Statesmen will be looking to claim their fourth and fifth consecutive victories when they meet GSC foes Arkansas-Monticello and Christian Brothers this week. The Statesmen host Arkansas-Monticello at 8 p.m. Thursday at Sillers Coliseum before taking to the road to meet Christian Brothers for a 4 p.m. matchup Saturday in Memphis, Tenn.

After absorbing their only conference loss thus far this season at Arkansas Tech on Jan. 30, the Statesmen have returned to their winning ways, defeating their last three opponents.

The Statesmen held off Ouachita Baptist by a score of 84-77 last Thursday. Marqueys Brown scored a DSU career-best 20 points, while Roderick Ollie and Dino Hair added 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

Chad Akins handed out 12 assists against Ouachita Baptist to bring his career total to 527, ranking eighth all-time in GSC history. The senior point guard needs only 33 more assists to become the Delta State career leader in that category, surpassing Scott Nagy, who played for the Statesmen from 1985 to 1988.

The Statesmen are aiming for their second wins of the season over UAM and CBU. Akins scored 24 points to lead Delta State to an 83-73 win at Monticello on Jan. 24. Two days later, the Statesmen held off a late charge by Christian Brothers to claim a narrow 56-55 win over the Buccaneers at Sillers Coliseum.

Both men's games will be featured on Statesmen Sports Network immediately following each day's women's basketball contests. Jimmy Smith and J.T. Webb will have the call.
