ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Despite some valiant efforts displayed by the Delta State University men's tennis team, the Statesmen Netters dropped their first three matches of the 2010 season this past weekend.
The Statesmen dropped the season opener to Oklahoma Christian University 8-1 at the Heflin Tennis Center on the Ouachita Baptist University campus Friday, Feb. 19. DSU's lone win in the match came from junior transfer Guillaume Waters, who defeated OCU's Etiene Liete 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
Delta State tried to rebound Saturday, Feb. 20 versus Southwest Baptist at the Heflin Tennis Center, eventually falling to the Bearcats 6-3. DSU claimed wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.
At No. 3 singles Guillaume Waeters continued his hot play, defeating Domingos Carissimo 7-6 and 6-4.
Alexandre Waeters earned the win at No. 4 singles by defeating Brandon Finerty 7-1, 7-6 (11-9).
Cristian Serrano-Garcia teamed with
Julien Maurin to defeat Marton Zsigol and Jorge Margiotta 9-8 (9-7) in No. 1 singles.
In the final match of the weekend, the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers (3-0) defeated the Statesmen 5-0 in a match plagued by cold weather and brisk wind.
OBU claimed wins in all three doubles matches and No. 1 and No. 5 singles.
The Statesmen return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 24, as Delta State hosts Christian Brothers. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
