Statesmen rout Tornadoes for third straight victory

Box Score TALLADEGA, Ala.—The Statesmen soccer team hit the road Friday looking for their third straight victory. They found that victory, as they led wire-to-wire and defeated Talladega College 6-0.

The Statesmen (3-6) got on the board in the first half with two goals, and never looked back.  They added four more goals in the second half en route to the blow out victory.

Senior forward Tom Santos led the way for the Statesmen with two goals. Senior midfielder Joel Salazar scored, as did freshman forward Reese Shaffer. Sophomore midfielder and Daniel deBlaere also found the back of the net for the Statesmen.

Freshman goalkeepr Sebastian Simota made his third start for the Statesmen, and it was a good one. Simota made five saves in the en route to his first collegiate clean sheet.

The Statesmen return home to Delta Field for their next match. They will host Faulkner University Tuesday Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. The match will be available on the Statesmen Radio Network starting at 12:55 p.m.
