Box Score CLEVELAND—The Statesmen soccer team hosted Faulkner University Tuesday afternoon at Delta Field. An early goal set the pace for the Statesmen, as they came away with the 2-1 victory, their fourth consecutive win.
The match remained at a scoreless deadlock until the 29th minute. Sophomore forward
Eljay Allen sent a corner kick into the box, and sophomore defender
Joe Stockglausner headed the ball into the back of the net. The goal was the second of the season for Stockglausner, and it was Allen's first assist.
The Statesmen (4-6) took a 1-0 into halftime, and came out in the second half looking to add onto their lead. They added their second goal in the 70th minute when junior midfielder
Steven Simmons scored off a corner kick. The goal was the second of the season for Simmons, and senior midfielder
Joel Salazar picked up his first assist of the season.
The Eagles (3-6-1) were down 2-0 for most of the second half until they were able to get a goal in the 89th minute off a penalty kick. Didier Atse scored the penalty kick for his second goal of the season.
Faulkner could not find an equalizing goal in the final minute of the match, and the Statesmen held on for the 2-1 win.
Junior goalkeeper
Flavio Romero allowed one goal, and made two saves for the Statesmen. Austin White allowed two goals, and made seven saves for the Eagles in the losing effort. The Statesmen held a 17-13 shot advantage, and a 7-1 corner kick edge over the Eagles.

Tom Santos was given a yellow card by the referee in the 84th minute.
The Statesmen now hit the road for their final non-conference match before Gulf South play begins. The Statesmen will play Texas A&M International on Thursday in the neutral site of Richland, Texas. The match gets underway at 1 p.m. The Statesmen will begin conference play on Oct. 14 at home against Alabama-Huntsville.
