Box Score TOUGALOO, Miss. – The Delta State Lady Statesmen basketball team picked up its first road win of the season, defeating the Tougaloo Lady Bulldogs 62-45.
Rhandi Ball had a big night for the Lady Statesmen, scoring 16 points in front of a crowd that was full of Delta State supporters.
Ball was a starter for head coach Sandra Rushing Thursday night and was a key part of the offense. To go along with 5-of-7 night from the field, Ball hit 75 percent of her free throws, had five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action.
The Lady Statesmen struggled to get rolling early on, scoring only one basket in the first five minutes as the team adjusted to the Lady Bulldogs quick tempo.

Veronica Walker and sophomore
Brooke Rhodes settled the Lady Statesmen early on, combining for 21 of the Lady Statesmen's 33 first half points.
Walker finished with team highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Rhodes finished with 16 points.
Once Delta State took the lead, they never looked back, gradually pulling away through the middle of the first half. The Lady Statesmen went on a 10-3 run, closing out the half with a 33-21 lead.
In the second half, Delta State slowed the pace and kept their distance of Tougaloo. Ball scored 11 of her 16 in the second half.
The Lady Statesmen were 67 percent from the free throw line as a team, going 12-of-18.
The Lady Statesmen will have nine days off before attending the Carson Newman Invitational for two games on Nov. 26 and 27 at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.
