Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Delta State Statesmen basketball team fell to the Ouachita Baptist Tigers 88-59 Saturday night at Bill Vining Arena.
Cornel Knight led Delta State (1-1) with 19 points and eight rebounds but the Statesmen were unable to find an answer for Austin Mitchell and his game-high 27 points.
Mitchell catapulted the Tigers (3-0) to a 42-25 first half lead after making six 3-pointers, including three-in-a-row on consecutive possessions to break an early tie at 12. Mitchell finished seven-of-10 from three-point range.
Terry Leake was the only other Statesmen to reach double digits in points, finishing with 11 points.
Delta State was 40 percent from three-point range and 58 percent from the free-throw line.
The Statesmen also struggled in the turnover battle, giving away 23 turnovers to Ouachita Baptist's 10.
Delta State will have a day off Sunday before playing Henderson State Monday night in Arkadelphia. The Statesmen will wrap up the three-game road trip Tuesday at Arkansas-Monticello.
