Brooke Rhodes chipped in with a career-high 26 to lead the No. 13 ranked Lady Statesmen (3-2) of Delta State University to a 72-60 victory over Lincoln Memorial University on Sunday at the Carson Newman Classic. DSU bounced back from an opening round loss on Saturday to CNC 54-48 with Sunday's win.
Walker, who connected on 13-of-19 shots from the floor, scored a season-high 35 points while pulling down nine rebounds. It was the first 30 point game of the season for the two-time All-American and National Player of the Year candidate.
Rhodes was just as impressvive, hitting on 8-of-19 attempts with a perfect 7-for-7 at the line. The sophomore from Pelahatchie, Miss., added three rounds and five assists.
The Lady Statesmen, who shot 25-of-58 from the field and 17-of-19 at the free throw line, got a big boost from
Brittany Roberts. The junior guard added nine points and dished out a career-high nine assists in the win.
DSU's suffocating defense held the Lady Railsplitters to 25-of-55 shooting, while out rebounding LMU 36-31.
The Lady Statesmen return to the court Saturday, Dec. 10 at Ouachita Baptist University. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia, Ark.
