Lady Statesmen fall at OBU 65-60

Box Score Arkadelphia, Ark. – Fresh off a two week break, the Lady Statesmen were back in action as they faced Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Lady Statesmen they could not overcome an 11-point halftime deficit, as the Lady Tigers came away with a 65-60 victory.

Ouachita Baptist (4-2) came out strong in the first half, and went into halftime with a double-digit lead. The Lady Tigers shot 42 percent from the floor in the first half, and went to work down low scoring 22 points in the paint. The Lady Tigers shot 42 percent despite going 0-for-8 from the three –point line.

The Lady Statesmen (3-3) shot 9-of-29 in the first half good for 31 percent. They went 0-of-1 from three-point range, and were 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Senior guard Denesha Henderson, and sophomore center Aubree Ray both led the Lady Statesmen in scoring for the opening half with five points each.

Down as much as 14 in the second half, the Lady Statesmen fought back. The Lady Statesmen improved to 40 percent shooting in the second half, and cut the Ouachita Baptist lead to just two points with 1:51 left in regulation. However, that would be as close as the Lady Statesmen would get, as the Lady Tigers held on for the 65-60 victory.

The Lady Statesmen were led by Walker who finished the game with 14 points, and six rebounds. Ray finished with 13 for the Lady Statesmen, and sophomore guard Brooke Rhodes finished with 11 points.

A'Laeshia Adams and Beulah Osueke led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points each. Tamara Robinson chipped in with a double-double, as she scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

For the game, the Lady Statesmen shot 36 percent from the floor. The Lady Tigers shot 40 percent for the entire game. The Lady Statesmen grabbed 42 rebounds compared to 39 for Ouachita Baptist, but the Lady Statesmen turned the ball over 13 times to just 10 for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Statesmen are off next week, but will be back in action as they head to Florida to face Florida Southern on Dec. 18. The Lady Statesmen will compete in the Lady Mocs Classic, as they play Florida Southern on the 18th, and will then face Saint Leo on Dec. 19.
