CLEVELAND - Brittany Roberts, a 5-foot-6 guard from Shelton State Community College, signed her National Letter of Intent to play for coach Sandra Rushing and the Delta State University Lady Statesmen on Wednesday.  Roberts is the third player to ink with DSU in the current signing period.

"Brittany is an explosive player with a knack for delivering and scoring the basketball," Rushing stated.  "She comes from an excellent high school and junior college system that will have her prepared to make an immediate impact on this program."

Roberts played last season for Madonna Thompson at Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, Ala., after transferring from Jackson State University.  The Meridian, Miss., native led Shelton State to a 24-7 overall record and a sixth straight trip to the Alabama Community College Conference Championship game, falling just short to Wallace-Hanceville.

The speedy guard played in 31 games for SSCC, averaging 9.8 points per game.  She also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game for the Lady Bucs.  She scored a career-high 15 points twice and pulled down a career-high 10 boards as well.

Roberts was named All-ACCC North and Second Team All-State at SSCC.  She was also selected to play in the ACCC All-Star Showcase this year.

Prior to Shelton State, Roberts spent one season at Jackson State University where she appeared in nine game with two starts while averaging 1.7 points per game.

One of the state of Mississippi's top prospects as a senior at Southeast Lauderdale High School, Roberts led SHS to the 2008 Class 3A State Championship and a runner-up finish in 2009.  She averaged 19.3 points, 7.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game as a senior.

Her list of accomplishments is also as big as her game.  She was named to The Clarion Ledger Second Team All-State squad as a senior and received the CellularSouth Scholar Athlete Award at the 2009 State Championships for her efforts in the classroom.

She participated in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game and the Mississippi North/South All-Star Classic as a senior.  As a junior, Roberts was named the MVP of the Mississippi North/South Classic.
