DECATUR, Ala.-The University of West Alabama Tigers used a four run fourth inning to pull away for a 6-1 win over the Delta State Lady Statesmen in game one of the Gulf South Conference Crossover, Thursday at Wilson Morgan Park.
The Tigers (22-12, 2-10) jumped ahead in the top of the first with an RBI base hit by Valisha Fincher. It was Fincher again who drove in a run in the top of the third with another single, giving UWA the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Statesmen (12-22, 4-9) responded in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by
Lauren Lewis that scored
Christina Hunter from second. Hunter reached second with a double down the left field line.
UWA exploded in the top of the fourth with a four run inning, which included five hits. The Tigers used RBI hits in the inning by Taylor Beck, Jessica Powell and Rebecca Schick.
The Lady Statesmen loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame, but were held in check by Tigers starter Kristen Skinner.
DSU left nine runners on in the contest that saw all UWA starters record a hit, in a 12 hit effort.

Victoria Combs recorded the other four hits for the Lady Statesmen.
Brittany Gonzales (4-13) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Sara Davis pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits.
Skinner (11-4) picked up the win, as she allowed one run on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Hannah Griffin pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
The Lady Statesmen continue their Crossover schedule with two contests on Friday. DSU will tangle with West Florida at 12 p.m. and Valdosta State at 4 p.m.
