Box Score CLEVELAND—The Statesmen soccer team's struggles continued Wednesday afternoon. After going down 3-0 in the first half, the Statesmen fell to Ouachita Baptist 4-1 at Delta Field.
The Tigers (2-4) came out strong in the first half, as they took a commanding lead. Andrew Davis scored first for the Tigers. He put the ball in the back of the net off and assist from JT Goodrum in the 17th minute.
Ouachita Baptist was not done in the first half. Goodrum scored his own goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from Rizvan Ceka. The Tigers capped off the half with a goal from Sergiu Postolache in the 30th minute. Postolache was assisted by Clayton Case, and Ceka on the goal.
The Statesmen (0-5) looked to get going in the second half. Senior forward
Tom Santos got the Statesmen on the board in the 55th minute. Santos was able to head the ball into the back of the net off an assist from freshman forward
Taylor Whyte.
With a two-goal lead, the Tigers put the game away in the 80th minute. Josh Galante scored, and was assisted by Case on the play. The goal allowed the Tigers to close out their 4-1 victory.
The Statesmen could not muster much of any offense in the first half. The only registered on shot in the first half, and only six for the game. The Tigers recorded 22 shots during the contest.
The referee booked three players during the match, all from the Statesmen. Sophomore defender
Joe Stockglausner was given a yellow card in the 66th minute. Santos picked up a yellow in the 77th minute, and sophomore midfielder
John Torres was booked with a yellow in the 80th minute.
The Statesmen now turn their attention to a Friday match against Harding University. The Bison come into the match with a 2-2-1 record, and are coming off a 1-0 loss to Drury University. The game Friday gets underway at 3:00 p.m. at Delta Field, and is also available on Statesmen Radio Network.
