New Orleans gets off to hot start in win over Statesmen

Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of New Orleans Privateers opened the game on a 10-1 run and did not look back, as they held on to defeat The Delta State University Statesmen 81-59, Monday at Lakefront Arena.

UNO (12-9) started off the game scoring at the 1:08 mark and did not relinquish the lead to DSU for the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 22.

The Statesmen (4-11) shot a combined .468 (22-of-47) from the field, keeping in contention with the Privateers .548 (34-62).
Three-point shooting turned out to be a key factor with UNO connecting on 9-20. DSU went 2-8 from three-point range.

Lovell Cook led the Privateers with 22 points, 11-of-16 from the field. Brandon Canady followed up his teammate with 13 point performance, shooting 3-of-7 from behind the arc.

Arthur Jackson led the Statesmen in the contest with 15 points shooting 5-of-11 from the field. Terry Leake also contributed to the cause posting 14 points.

The Statesmen will return home on Jan. 14, to serve host to the University of Alabama Huntsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
