Statesmen Soccer Game Notes - Week 7 (PDF)
CLEVELAND - The Statesmen soccer team heads into a very important weekend in the conference tournament picture as Delta State will play road games at Shorter and Alabama-Huntsville.
The fourth and final spot in the conference tournament battle between UAH and DSU is separated by just four points.
The Statesmen's two conference wins this season came against the Hawks and Chargers. DSU looks to snap a four game skid in GSC play since back-to-back wins over SU and UAH in mid-September.
Rahmani breaks through
Freshman midfielder
Amine Rahmani picked up his first goal as a Statesman last week in a match against Ouachita Baptist, hammering home a side volley from the edge of the box. The goal came in the Vénissieux, France native's first game back after missing a few games with an injury.
Simmons climbing the charts
Steven Simmons has been a key part of the Statesmen offense since he arrived on campus last fall. The senior added a free-kick goal at West Florida, moving the Liverpool, England native up the career charts.
Simmons now sits in ninth place in points and tenth in goals as a Statesman. He currently has 14 points and five goals for Delta State. He also sits in a tie for third on the all-time assist list.
Da Silva on verge of Statesmen record
Caue Da Silva currently sits at nine goals on the season for the Statesmen after a remarkable month of September.
Earlier this season, Da Silva became the first player in Delta State history to have multiple hat tricks in a season or career. He now stands on the cusp of the season goal record (10) and is close to the point mark (24) as well, sitting at 19.
Against the states
The Statesmen are playing a team from the state of Georgia for the second time this season and in the history of the program. Delta State is 1-0-0 against the state after a 3-1 win against Shorter earlier this season. This will be the final game against the “Peach State” this season.
The Statesmen are 1-1-0 against the state of Alabama this season. The Statesmen are playing their third of four games against the “Yellowhammer State” with the match at Huntsville. The Statesmen are 8-17-0 against the state of Alabama all-time.
