Lady Statesmen fall in overtime to UAH

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Delta State University women's soccer team took the lead early in the second half against Alabama-Huntsville, but fell to the Chargers in the final minute of the first overtime period.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Lady Statesmen (3-10-1, 2-5-0 GSC) miss on a couple chances, Payten Pearson put Delta State up 1-0 with a rebound goal from Jackie Kelly. Pearson's goal was her fifth of the season and second straight game with a goal.

The goal also gave Pearson 10 for her career and moved her into a tie for third on the all-time list.

The Lady Statesmen coninued to putshots on target in the second half, but Khadijah Jannah tied things up in the 70th minute with a breakaway goal.

Niether team scored in the remaining 20 minutes and the game went to an overtime period. In the overtime period, Ashley Goodlett had the first chance, putting a shot on target about five minutes in. Chargers keeper Iris Gunnarsdottir made the crucial save, prolonging the game.

Just before the first ovetime session was over, Jannah scored her second goal of the game to give the Chargers then win.

Lady Statesmen Erin Tucker hit a post in the 39th minute in the first half and Delta State outshot the Chargers 10-9 in the match.

Up next for Delta State will be a conference match against Christian Brothers at home. The Lady Statesmen will take on the Lady Bucs Oct. 21 at Delta Field.
