STATESMEN SOCCER GAME NOTES - WEEK 8 (PDF)
CLEVELAND - The Statesmen soccer team returns home after a 3-game conference road trip to play West Alabama and West Florida in a pair of crucial conference games in the GSC Tournament picture.
Heading into the weekend, all four tournament seeds are still attainable for the Statesmen, who will be looking to finish what they started in the last two meetings against the Tigers and Argos.
Points in this weekend's matches will also solidify the Statesmen soccer program's first berth into the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Delta State holds a six point advantage over UAH with four games remaining for each school.
Da Silva sets Statesmen records
Caue Da Silva set two Statesmen soccer records this past weekend in Delta State's 3-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville.
Da Silva scored two goals to move into sole possession of the all-time goals in a season (12) and all-time points in a season (25) records.
The freshman also set records for shots in a season (45) and shots on goal in a season (25) Da Silva also tied the record for game winning goals in a season (3).
Deblaere takes claim to assist record
Junior midfielder
Daniel Deblaere also had a record setting day against Alabama-Huntsville. Deblaere picked up an assist on the final goal at UAH, giving him eight on the season, a new Statesmen season record.
Ridout quietly becoming a solid contributor
Sebastian Ridout has been quietly racking up points this season behind the cover of the record setting seasons for Da Silva and Deblaere.
The freshman has been a key offensive contributor this season with nine points, including a goal and an assist over the road trip this past weekend. The Torquay, England native sits in fourth for the Statesmen in points with three goals and three assists on the year.
Simmons continues to climb charts
Steven Simmons has been a key part of the Statesmen offense since he arrived on campus last fall. The senior added a goal at Alabama-Huntsville moving the Liverpool, England native up the career charts.
Simmons now sits in eighth place in points and seventh in goals as a Statesman. He currently has 16 points and six goals for Delta State. He also sits in a tie for fourth on the all-time assist list.
