Statesmen look to rebound with matches vs CBU, OBU

CLEVELAND
- The Statesmen soccer team heads to Christian Brothers Friday, looking to snap a three-game conference losing skid after defeats from Union last week and West Florida and West Alabama the week prior.

The Statesmen will also play Ouachita Baptist this weekend. The Tigers, a former Gulf South Conference member is in the Great American Conference after competing in the GSC in 2011.

Da Silva on verge of Statesmen record
Caue Da Silva currently sits at nine goals on the season for the Statesmen after a remarkable month of September. The freshman also has an assist, giving him a total of 19 points heading into the month of October.

Earlier this season, Da Silva became the first player in Delta State history to have multiple hat tricks in a season or career. He now stands on the cusp of the season goal record (10) and close  to the point mark (24) as well.

The São Sebastião do Caí, Brazil native is gaining national attention through the first five weeks of the season. Da Silva sits eighth nationally with nine goals on the season.

He also ranks 16th in total points (19), ninth in goals per game (1.00), and 20th in points per game (2.11). Da Silva ranks first in all four categories in the Gulf South Conference.

Deblaere solid in September
Daniel Deblaere had an excellent first half of the season, as the midfielder accumulated 12 points on three goals and six assists.

The Sydney, Australia native's point streak reached seven games before Harding's tie this week. Deblaere capped off the streak with a goal and two assists against Union last week.

Deblaere is currently sixth in the nation in assists  and 11th in assists per game (0.67). Deblaere also ranks 76th in points and 95th in points per game (1.33). He currently leads the GSC in both assist categories and is tied for third in both points categories.

Simmons climbing the charts
Steven Simmons has been a key part of the Statesmen offense since he arrived on campus last fall. The senior added a free-kick goal at West Florida, moving the Liverpool, England native up the career charts.

Simmons now sits in ninth place in points and tenth in goals as a Statesman. He currently has 14 points and five goals for Delta State. He also sits in a tie for third on the all-time assist list.

Pair of firsts
In the last two games, the Statesmen have had first time goal scorers. Against Union, Michael Boulanger picked up his first goal with the opening goal of the game. Luke Mason picked up his first goal for the green-and-white with his goal at Harding.

Against the states
The Statesmen are playing a team from the state of Tennessee for the second time this season. Delta State is 0-1-0 against the state after a 5-3 loss last week against Union. The 2012 schedule includes four games against the “Volunteer State”. Delta State hold a 9-27-3 record against Tennessee teams.

The Statesmen are 0-0-1 against the state of Arkansas this season after this weeks tie against Harding. The Statesmen are playing their final game against the “Natural” state with the match vs OBU. The Statesmen are 9-18-1 against the state of Arkansas.
