Statesmen can't overcome early goal, fall to CBU 3-0

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Delta State Statesmen soccer team couldn't overcome an early goal by Christian Brothers and fell to the Buccaneers 3-0 after a late pair of goals.

Christian Brothers (5-5-1) went up early on the Statesmen (5-6-1) when Ralph Velasco scored off a cross in the eighth minute to put the Bucs up.

Christian Brothers outshot Delta State 14-4 in the match and had five corner chances to none for the Statemen. CBU added a pair of late goals, including a penalty to add late insurance for the Bucs in the 3-0 victory. 

Adamandios Toras scored on a rebound given by Statesmen goalkeeper Milos Boskovic and Jose Ferraz scored the penalty kick goal fort the Bucs.

Steven Simmons and Michael Boulanger each got a shot on goal, but were on unable to beat Jaime Garcia, who picked up the clean sheer for Christian Brothers.

The Statesmen will return to action Friday for the second of three straight another conference matches on the road, this time at Shorter.
