Chelsey Rhodes 22-point effort leads Lady Statesmen to 72-53 win over Tuskegee

Box Score CLEVELAND – The Delta State Lady Statesmen Basketball team cruised to a 72-53 win Tuesday night over Tuskegee to improve to 3-1 on the season. Chelsey Rhodes led the Lady Statesmen with 22 points, including 14 in the second half.

After Tuskegee opened up the second half on a 6-0 run, Rhodes hit a three straight shots from 3-point range to regain the momentum for the Lady Statesmen. Rhodes hit four of the Lady Statesmen's six 3-pointers on the night. Brooke Rhodes had the other two 3-pointers for Delta State.

After an even start through the first five minutes of the game, the Lady Statesmen broke away with a 12-point run to take a 20-8 lead that they never looked back on.

Seneca Walton led the Lady Statesmen with nine points and five rebounds in the first half. Chelsey Rhodes and Rhandi Ball each had eight points and Brooke Rhodes had seven points in the first 20 minutes. Delta State closed out the first half with a 46-26 lead.

Walton and Brooke Rhodes joined Chelsey Rhodes in double-digits in points on the evening. Walton finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Brooke Rhodes had 10 points

The Lady Statesmen were 42 percent from the field, going 27 of 64. They were 12 of 16 from the free-throw line on the night.

Delta State out rebounded Tuskegee 41-38 and had 14 steals to 11 for the Tigers. The Lady Statesmen forced 25 turnovers from Tuskegee.

Tuskegee also finished 42 percent from the field as well but was 0-4 from 3-point range and only seven of 13 from the free-throw line.

Delta State returns to action Friday night in the Llyod Clark against Stillman College. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
