Statesmen fall in GSC title game

Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Delta State Statesmen Soccer team's run came to an end Sunday, falling to Christian Brothers in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship game 5-1.

Delta State fell behind early, giving up a pair of goals to the Buccaneers in the first 13 minutes.

The Statesmen cut the deficit to one in the 25th minute, as Sebastian Ridout finished a rebound opportunity past Jamie Garcia. The rebound came off of a free kick from Stephen Simmons that Garcia was able to get a hand on.

Coming out of the halftime, Jaxon Lambert scored the equalizer for the Statesmen, only to have the goal disallowed. The linesman called a late offsides on Lambert after the referee had signaled goal.

The opportunity was the best chance for the Statesmen to get back in the match. Christian Brothers added a pair of goals shortly after on mistakes from the Statesmen.

Two Statesmen were then sent off with red cards at the same time. The two man advantage for CBU led to the final goal. The Statesmen's season comes to an end with the loss, finishing 8-11-1.

Sebastian Ridout, Amine Rahmani, Caue Da Silva, and Steven Simmons all made the GSC All-Tournament team. Steven Simmons was also named GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player for two goals and an assist in two games.
