Tuskegee uses strong second half to defeat Lady Statesmen

Box Score TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University Tigerettes used a strong second half to defeat the Delta State University Lady Statesmen basketball team 65-61, Monday night at the Daniel James Center.
 
Tuskegee (3-4) outscored DSU (6-2) 39-30 in the second half to even the season series at 1-1. The Lady Statesmen won the first meeting 72-53 on November 20.
 
DSU took a 31-26 lead into the locker room after the first twenty minutes, using 12-of-26 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-8 (62.5) percent from three-point range.
 
The Tigerettes finished the half 10-of-21 (47.6), but were only 4-of-13 from the free throw line, while the Green-and-White were only 2-of-2 from the foul line.
 
Tuskegee took advantage of good defense in the second half, holding the Lady Statesmen to 8-of-27 (29.6) from the floor, while shooting 13-of-29 in the final 20 minutes. TU improved drastically from the line in the second half, going 13-of-19 (68.4). DSU stayed in the contest going, 11-of-13 from the line in the second half of play.
 
Torreece Maxey scored a game high 16 points off the bench for the Tigerettes. Amelia Dorton also helped the cause with 14.
 
Seneca Walton (12), Brittany Roberts (11) and Rhandi Ball (10) led DSU.
 
The Lady Statesmen finish up the non-conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 29 in Arkadelphia, Ark., with a contest versus former Gulf South Conference rival Ouachita Baptist. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
