Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State University women's basketball team extended their win streak to 11 with the help of
Brooke Rhodes' career night in a 65-42 win over the University of West Alabama. Rhodes 27 point effort is the most in her career since scoring 26 against Lincoln Memorial on Nov. 11, 2011.
Lady Statesmen (17-4, 10-1 GSC) jumped out early on the Tigers (8-14, 3-8 GSC) connecting 4-of-6 from behind the arc en route to a 20-6 run led by
Brooke Rhodes and
Veronica Walker who scored 18 of the 20 green and white's points at the 14:02 mark in the first-half.
The green and white continued to shoot hot from the field in the first-half connecting on 12-of-27 (44.4%) from the floor and 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the three-point line. West Alabama struggled to find rhythm offensively only managing 5-of-27 (18.5%) from the floor and failed to connect on any of their five total three point attempts.
Brooke Rhodes connected on 6-of-8 (75%) of her shots from the floor and 3-of-4 from the three-point line in the first-half contributing 15 points for the Lady Statesmen, while
Veronica Walker shot 2-of-3 from behind the arc for nine points and brought in four rebounds.
Tamya Thompson led the Tigers with five points and three rebounds, while teammates Jamie Gunter and Daniel Cole chipped in four points apiece in the first-half.
Gunter connected on West Alabama's first three-point shot with 8:53 remaining in the contest, while it seemed the Lady Statesmen could not miss from behind the arc connecting on 9-of-14 three-point shots on the night.
Brooke Rhodes shot 10-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-7 from behind the arc for 27 points and eight rebounds in her career performance.
Veronica Walker posted a 15 point and six rebound performance connecting on 4-of-5 from the three-point line.
Aubree Ray contributed 12 points and seven rebounds while
Brittany Roberts scored in the double digits with 10 points and six assists.
Gunter just shy of a double-double for the Tigers posting nine points and eight rebounds, while teammate Kottia White contributed eight points, and Nikkia Jordan chipped in seven for the red and white.
The Lady Statesmen return on action on Thursday, Feb. 16 as they take to the road against Gulf South Conference opponent the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting at 5:15 p.m. with
