Box Score 2 CLEVELAND – The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team used two complete game shutouts by pitchers
Brittany Gonzales and
Ashleigh Allgood to sweep a doubleheader over Henderson State, Wednesday at University Field.
DSU (14-17) took the first game 2-0 and held on for a 3-0 win in the second game.
With the sweep, the Lady Statesmen claimed the season series over the Lady Reddies (15-24) 3-2.
Marisa Sanders RBI single in the bottom of the first that scored
Jordan Cole gave the Lady Statesmen all the runs it would need.
Ashleigh Allgood's RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fifth to complete the scoring.
DSU starting pitcher
Brittany Gonzales held HSU in check. At one point the junior retired 10 straight Lady Reddie hitters.
Gonzales (6-5) allowed four hits with three strikeouts and one walk in the win.
Melissa Decker (7-10) allowed one run on six hits in four innings. Kasey Carlock allowed one run on one hit in two innings of relief.
Allgood and
Brook Cline each had two hits for the Lady Statesmen.
HSU threatened in the top of the first in game two, as Ashley Ray doubled to left field and Amy Halter singled to start the game. Sarah Gipson popped into a double play, before Amber Klug was retired to end the inning.
Taylor Holland's RBI single in the bottom of the second scored
Taylor Hughes from second base to give DSU a 1-0 lead.
Allgood drove in her second run of the day with an RBI double in the bottom of the third.
Pinch-hitter
Kendall Sizemore drove in Hughes with a base hit up the middle in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring.
Allgood (7-9) retired eight straight HSU hitters, and allowed five hits in the win. Stephanie Johnson (2-3) allowed three runs on seven hits in the loss.
Carlock allowed two hits in one inning of relief.
Hughes and Cline each had two hits for the Lady Statesmen.
DSU will return to action on Saturday, March 31 for a GSC doubleheader for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at University Field versus the University of West Georgia.
