Box Score 2 CLEVELAND - The Delta State University softball team picked up only eight total hits in two games, as the No. 22 University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers swept a doubleheader, Saturday at the UAH Softball Complex.
UAH (33-12, 15-7) starting pitcher Whitney Gilbert pitched a complete game shutout for a 1-0 win in game one, and Whitney Toler allowed only one run over seven innings, as UAH held on for a 4-1 win in game two.
The Lady Statesmen (18-27, 5-15) were held to only four hits in game one, but were in the contest the entire way, as starter
Brittany Gonzales (8-9) allowed only one run over six innings.
Stephanie Needham was driven in from second base by Kelli Pullin in the bottom of the third, which proved to be the lone run of the contest.
Maggie Jackson had two of DSU's four hits in the contest.
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game one,as
Taylor Holland's RBI double scored
Amber Adcock from first base.
The Chargrers struck back in the bottom half of the inning with Kathryn Whitlock's two out RBI double.
Abby MacKay drove in the next three runs for UAH, with a two run home run in the fourth and an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.
Holland had two of DSU's four hits in the loss.
Toler (14-6) allowed one run on four hits in the win.
Lauren Kendall (1-5) allowed four runs on seven hits in the loss.
DSU will return to action on Sunday, April 15 for a doubleheader at the University of North Alabama. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
