Statesmen Soccer Game Notes - Week 5 (PDF)
CLEVELAND - The Statesmen soccer team comes back to Delta Field for a Gulf South Conference game against Union University friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
The Statesmen will play Union, a transitioning GSC member, for the first time in history as a conference opponent. The Bulldogs hold a 2-1-1 series lead over the Statesmen in non-conference match ups.
The Bulldogs won the last meeting between the two schools in 2010, defeating the Statesmen 3-0 in Jackson, Tenn.
Da Silva Adds Another Goal, On Verge of Statesmen Record
Caue Da Silva scored one of two goals for the Statesmen Sunday at West Florida, bringing his total to nine goals on the season. He also has an assist for 19 total points.
Earlier this season, Da Silva became the first player in Delta State history to have multiple hat tricks in a season or career. He now stands on the cusp of the season goal record (10) and close  to the point mark (24) as well.
The São Sebastião do Caí, Brazil native is gaining national attention through the first four weeks of the season. Da Silva sits sixth nationally with nine goals on the season.
He also ranks eighth in total points (19), eighth in goals per game (1.13), and fourteenth in points per game (2.38). Da Silva ranks first in all four categories in the Gulf South Conference.
Deblaere Streaking
Daniel Deblaere has been making a big impact for the Statesmen lately, setting up several goals while also scoring with his chances. He has had a goal or assist in six straight games.
The junior from Sydney, Australia added his second goal of the season against West Alabama, heading home a ball in the second half. The midfielder also added an assist to Da Silva's goal at West Florida.
Thanks For the Assist
Daniel Deblaere and 
Jaxon Lambert have been key setup men for the Statesmen in the first half of the season. The duo are tied for the GSC lead in assists with four each. The duo also rank 21st in the nation in total assists and 40th in assists per game (.50).
Simmons Climbing the Charts
Steven Simmons has been a key part of the Statesmen offense since he arrived on campus last fall. The senior added a free-kick goal last week at West Florida, moving the Liverpool, England native up the career charts.
Simmons now sits in tenth place in both goals and points as a Statesman. He currently has 13 points and five goals in 25 games for the green-and-white. Simmons also sits in a tie for seventh on the all-time assist list.
Against the States
The Statesmen are playing a team from the state of Tennessee for the first time this season, which will include four game against the “Volunteer State”. Delta State hold a 9-26-3 record against Tennessee teams.
