Statesmen use late goal to prevent shutout, fall to Shorter 3-1

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State fell at home to Shorter, 3-1.  The Statesmen would get on the scoreboard late from an unlikely source in the game between two Gulf South Conference teams.

Shorter (7-4-2, 6-3-1 GSC) would score once in the first half when Robert Ochieng would feed Lucas Cavenco in the 14th minute, a score that would stand alone through halftime.

Ochieng would score twice in the second half, a minute apart, and the Hawks would hold a 3-0 lead after 65 minutes of action.

Delta State (1-10-1, 1-7-1 GSC) would stave off the shut out when a pair of reserves would connect for a goal in the final minute.  Kofi Adu-Amankwah fed Russell Alvarez Jr., for the score.  This marked the first goal for Alvarez in his career, and also marked the first career assist for Adu-Amankwah.

Shorter would capitalize on a 19-12 advantage on shots, while also holding a 9-5 lead in shots on goal.  Milos Boskovic made six saves, his second highest total on the season, while playing all ninety minutes in goal.

Amine Rahmani and Jaxon Lambert would each attempt three shots, with Lambert putting a pair on goal.

Lee University (5-3-3, 4-2-3 GSC) will visit Delta Field on Sunday, October 20, for a 3:30 PM start time.
