WBB GAME NOTES: Selma University at Delta State University (11.11-17.13)

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen (1-1) open the home portion of their schedule this Tuesday, Nov. 12, as the Selma University Lady Bulldogs (2-1) travel to Walter Sillers Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game marks just the second meeting all-time on the court between the two institutions of higher learning. The Green-and-White defeated the Lady Bulldogs last season 99-33 on the same date.
The Lady Statesmen (1-1) of Delta State University are coming off a tough 63-65 loss against Lynn University at the Comfort Inn Tip-Off Classic hosted by Pensacola, Fla.
The Green-and-White went 1-1 in Pensacola as they claimed a 60-50 win over Tuskegee, a team Delta State split with last season.
Delta State shot 42.6 percent (24-of-54) from the floor in their loss to Lynn. They held the Knights to a 38.5 field-goal percentage, but Lynn put up an impressive 42.9 shooting percentage from downtown.
In their loss against Lynn, Delta State was led by
Seneca Walton with 17 points and 10 rebounds, followed by
Becca Ruckes with 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Walton and Ruckes also led the Green -and-White in their win over Tuskegee. The two Lady Statesmen each put up 14 points, while Walton brought down 12 rebounds. Ruckes was one point shy of her career-high 15 points
Seneca Walton is picking up where she left off last season as she has recorded a double-double in each of Delta State's first two games of the season. Walton went 17-10 in loss against Lynn and 14-12 in win over Tuskegee.
Sophomore
Becca Ruckes has already proven that she has improved tremendously from last season. Already this year, Ruckes is averaging 13.0 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game, whereas last season she averaged around three points and three rebounds per game.
Shanae Govan put up a career-high performance with seven assists in Delta State's win over Tuskegee. She also grabbed a whopping six steals against Lynn.
Freshman
Anissa Jackson is adjusting well to collegiate basketball as she put up big good numbers in Delta State's game against Lynn. Jackson put up eight points, two boards, two assists, and two steals in her second game as a Lady Statesman.
Seneca Walton also received GSC Player of the Week honors for Week One after averaging a double-double at the Comfort Inn Classic.. This is her first time receiving this accolade.
The Green-and-White will look to bounce back from a loss as they will take on Selma University for just the second matchup all time. Last season saw Delta State thumping Selma 99-37.

DSU will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Stillman College on Nov. 23. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The Lady Statesmen will return home on Nov. 26 to face Belhaven University (Miss.).
