TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
Seneca Walton's 20 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth straight double-double, powered the No. 15 Delta State University women's basketball team to a 70-49 victory at Stillman College Saturday, Nov. 23 at Birthright Hall. The Lady Statesmen improved to 3-1 on the season while the Lady Tigers slipped to 1-3.
The Lady Statesmen jumped out to a 32-17 lead in the first half behind
Chelsey Rhodes' 13 points and Walton's 12. DSU shot just 32.7 percent in the half on 12-of-32 shooting, but held Stillman to a mere 21.9 percent on just seven made shots in 32 attempts.
The Green-and-White turned up the heat in the second half, outscoring the Lady Tigers 38-32 en route to the 21-point victory, the third straight over Stillman.
DSU finished the game shooting 25-of-66 for 37.9 percent from the floor, including 3-of-14 from 3-point range and 17-of-27 from the free throw line.
SC closed the contest hitting 15-of-62 field goal attempts, but managed just one 3-pointer in 16 shots. The Lady Tigers finished 18-of-26 at the line.
The Lady Statesmen used 15 Stillman turnovers to score 15 points off turnovers and outscored SC 26-15 in the paint. DSU also out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 56-43.
Walton finished with a game-high 20 points after connecting on 9-of-13 shots. The Clarksdale, Miss., native also cleared 10 rebounds and blocked a shot.
Rhodes finished with 18 points while
Rhandi Ball added 10 points, four rebounds and six assists.
Shanae Govan chipped in with five points and five assists.
Stillman was led by Samantha Thomas' eight points and five rebounds.
The Lady Statesmen return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 26, as Belhaven College travels to Walter Sillers Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
