DSU Women's Basketball Takes 77-43 Conference Road Win Over West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lady Statesmen of Delta State University traveled to Livingston, Ala., on Thursday night to face the Tigers of West Alabama for a Gulf South Conference matchup. The Green-and-White reigned victorious as they defeated the Tigers by a score of 77-43 to improve to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. West Alabama falls to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Statesmen opened the game going on 21-6 run over the Tigers to take the early lead. The Green-and-White continued to extend their lead over West Alabama with jumpers from Rhandi Ball, Seneca Walton, Anissa Jackson, and Becca Ruckes. Delta State went into the locker room leading West Alabama 41-16 at the half, shooting 64 percent from the field.

Delta State continued its offensive attack into the second half with two layups from Ball and a three-pointer from Chelsey Rhodes to extend the DSU lead to 48-18 with 17:50 to go in the game. The Green-and-White took their largest lead of the night at the 1:57 mark to go up by 40 over West Alabama with the score 75-35. Delta State closed out the game with a 77-43 win.

All but two Lady Statesmen scored in the win over West Alabama. Seneca Walton recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she dropped 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Rhandi Ball was close behind with 14 points and four rebounds. Myiesha Stewart recorded a career-high seven points in DSU's win over UWA. The Green-and-White shot 64.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free throw line.

The Delta State defense continues to dominate as it held the Tigers to just a 29.2 field goal percentage and 16.7 three-point percentage as they lead the GSC in defense. The Lady Statesmen outrebounded the Tigers 35 to 19.

Delta State returns to action in Huntsville, Ala. to face the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
