Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. – The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team scored 16 total runs in a pair of victories at the UAH Charger Chillout, Saturday at Wilson Morgan Park.
 
The Lady Statesmen (3-1) fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning to defeat Bellarmine 4-2, and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to defeat Ohio Dominican 12-6 in the nightcap.
 
The Knights (1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI base hit by Megan Murdoch.
 
After retiring DSU in order in the fifth, BU pushed across another run against starting pitcher 
Brittany Gonzales, using an RBI double by Abby Lenhart.
 
The Lady Statesmen left runners on in three of the first five innings, before finally breaking through in the bottom of the top of the sixth with a two out RBI double to right center field by 
Raina Stiffler, scoring 
Kayla Wilson and 
Mariah Alvarez.
 
BU threatened again in the bottom half of the inning stranding runners at second and third, as Gonzales forced a pop up to the shortstop to end the inning.
 
Following back-to-back hits to start the top of the seventh, a sacrifice bunt by 
Taylor Holland advanced runners to second and third. 
Amber Adcock then gave the Lady Statesmen, scoring on a wild pitch by Amy Feie. DSU then scored what proved to be the game-winning run on an RBI groundout by 
Taylor Hughes, scoring 
Katie Hebert.
 
Bellarmine put a scare into DSU in the bottom of the seventh, as Scarlett Powers led off the inning with a double to center field, and was driven in with a one out single by Ally Foster. Gonzales then struck out the final two hitters with the tying run at second base.
 
Gonzales (2-0) picked up the win, allowing three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Feie allowed four runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.
 
Brook Cline had three hits in three trips for the Lady Statesmen. 
Kaitlin Moore and Hughes each went 2-for-4. Foster (2-for-4) was the only BU player with multiple hits.
 
DSU jumped ahead 3-0 in the nightcap with Ohio Dominican (0-4), using a bases loaded walk, and a two out single by 
Kassidy Tally, scoring 
Kendall Sizemore and Cline.
 
The Panthers answered with one run in the top of the third off starting pitcher 
Lauren Kendall, using a sacrifice fly by Brooke McCartney.
 
ODU took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth with four runs in the inning, as Taylor Thomas led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, which was followed up by an RBI groundout and an RBI base hit by McCartney.
 
The Lady Statesmen answered in a big way in the bottom of the inning, batting around with eight runs on seven hits. Moore and Tally each had two RBI hits, and DSU also took advantage of a pair of Panther miscues.
 
ODU loaded the bases in the top of the sixth against relief pitcher Hebert, before 
Miller Maddox struck out Alex Cribari to end the inning.
 
An RBI groundout to the pitcher by 
Megan Mayfield that scored Cline ended the scoring in the bottom of the sixth.
 
All but one DSU starter had a hit, and five different players drove in runs.Cline finished 3-for-4 to go 6-for-8 on the day, while Tally finished the contest with four RBIs.
 
Kendall (1-1) allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits with one strikeout and a pair of walks. Hebert struck out one and walked three in 0.2 innings of relief. Maddox picked up the save in 1.1 innings of relief, striking out three and walking one.
 
Rachael Stanzel (0-2) allowed 11 runs, four earned in 3.2 innings. Brandis Fishel allowed one run on two hits with three walks in 2.1 innings of relief.
 
DSU will close out the tournament with a pair of contests on Sunday, beginning with Palm Beach Atlantic at 9 a.m., before finishing with the University of Southern Indiana at 1:00 p.m.
