Chaney sparks second half surge in 81-58 victory over Lady Chargers.

Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Delta State University women's basketball team advanced to the NCAA DII South Region Championship game in an 81-58 win over the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, March 16, at The Arena inside the Don Taft University Center. The Lady Statesmen exploded for 54 second half points on 15-of26 (.577) shooting from the floor en route to the victory.

Delta State (21-9), led by Brittany Roberts, jumped out early railing off an 8-0 run to open the contest while forcing three Alabama-Huntsville (16-17) turnovers.

UAH responded to close the gap and eventually took the lead on a furious comeback to end the half up 30-27 over the Green-and-White.

Delta State closed out the half with only eight points in the paint on 10-of-29 (.345) shooting with Roberts to lead the way seven points, three rebounds and three steals while Seneca Walton contributed six points and five rebounds.

The real fireworks began in the second half as Jaquecia Chaney took control of the game, scoring eight straight points for the Lady Statesmen, to regain the lead at 37-32 and shift momentum back to Delta State.

Chadisty Hickman, Roberts and Walton all followed Chaney's charge and picked up the intensity on both ends of the court. Delta State forced 23 turnovers total in the contest and converted them into 27 crucial points.

The Lady Statesmen after only scoring eight points in the paint in the first half found their way inside in the second half scoring 20 points in the area while shooting an outstanding 15-of-26 (.577) from the floor.

Roberts capped off the night with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals while Walton posted her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Hickman and Chaney scored 16 points and 14 points respectively.

Kendra Jones was the only UAH player to score in double digits with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Natalie Kelly led the way for the Lady Chargers in rebounds with seven.

The Lady Statesmen square off against Nova Southeastern University on Monday, March 18, at 7:00 p.m. EST/6:00 p.m. CST for the NCAA DII South Region Championship and a chance to advance to the Elite Eight in San Antonio, Texas.
