Statesmen defeat Alcorn State 5-2 in a tight match

VICKSBURG, Miss. - The Delta State University Statesmen tennis team (6-3, 2-2) defeated Alcorn State University 5-2 in a close match on Sunday, March 24. The win marks the sixth straight victory for DSU this season.

Doubles play began with an 8-6 win in Doubles one for the Statesmen as Florion Mondoloni and Guillaume Lacour defeated Ernesto Santillan and Garry Amor. Tobias Rausch and Jean Michel Limmery won doubles two as they defeated Max Tkachenko and Bhavtararan Singh of ASU 8-5.

AlSU recorded the win in doubles three as Vitali Vasileuski and Ivan Umnikov defeated DSU's Clement Depreeuw and Sebastian Rajaonary 8-5 to close doubles play.

Singles play began with an unfinished match in singles one while Lacour won singles two  6-1, 6-4 in straigt sets for the Statesmen.

Umnikov got the 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 win for ASU over Rausch in singles three. DSU won both singles four and singles five as Depreeuw defeated Amor in singles four by a final score of 6-1, 6-2 and Limery recorded the victory in singles five with a score of 6-1, 6-2.


 DSU's sinngles six match with Rajaonary was unfinished.

The Statesmen return to the courts on Thursday, March 28 with a road match against  the Chargers from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
