CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University men's tennis team claimed an impressive 9-0 victory over Christian Brothers University Wednesday, April 10 to close out the regular season. The Statesmen improved to 10-5 on the season and 4-3 in Gulf South Conference play.
Delta State jumped out of the gate with back-to-back victories in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The third doubles match was not contested.
Florian Mondoloni and Guillliame Lacour teamed up to defeat CBU's Kevin Johnson and Austin Talley 8-2 in the top slot.
Tobias Rausch and Jeam-Michael Limery followed up at No. 2 with an 8-0 win over Kyle Tally and Carlos Amader.
In singles action,
Clement Depreeuw defeated K. Johnson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 to give the Statesmen a 3-0 lead heading into the final three singles matches. Sebastian Rajaonary crushed A. Talley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 followed by
Mitchell Pinchbeck logging a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 over K. Talley.
Gullermo Cerrato-Saura closed out the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amader.
The Statesmen, who received the No. 4 seed, will compete April 20-21 at the Gulf South Conference Championships in Montgomery, Ala. DSU will face No. 5 seed Alabama-Huntsville, who the Statesmen defeated 5-4 earlier this year, in the tournament's first round. Match time is set for 11 a.m. at Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
