UAH hits way to sweep of Lady Statesmen

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers scored 17 combined runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team, Saturday at Charger Park.
 
UAH (30-13, 19-6) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on for a 7-3 victory in game one. The Chargers scored five big runs in the bottom of the third and used a three run bottom of the sixth to take the second game 10-2 in six innings.
 
Nicole Bobrowski gave UAH a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a three run home run.
 
The Lady Statesmen (16-29, 8-18) scored two runs in the top of the second on a bases loaded bunt single by Kassidy Tally and Memrie Corley scored on an error to make the score 4-2.
 
An RBI groundout by Courtney McNett gave the Chargers a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second.
 
After scoring one run in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice by Corley, UAH scored the final two runs of the contest on a pair of sacrifice flies.
 
Kimberly Jack (12-4) worked 3.2 innings of relief to pick up the win. Starter Whitney Toler allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits in 3.1 innings. Jack allowed two hits.
 
Miller Maddox (3-7) allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits in 3.1 innings. Lauren Kendall allowed only one hit in 2.2 innings of relief.
 
Amber Adcock had a pair of hits to pace DSU. Brianna Sullivan led UAH with two hits.
 
After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, the Chargers plated five runs on four hits, including a two RBI double by McNett.
 
Trailing 6-0 in the top of the fourth, after loading the bases with no outs, the Lady Statesmen used a two RBI single by Taylor Hughes, that made the score 6-2.
 
With a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, UAH used an RBI single by Mary Kelley and another two run double by McNett that ended the game on the eight run lead after five inning mercy rule.
 
Whitney Gilbert (8-7) allowed two runs on five hits in 4.1 innings to earn the win. Jack allowed two hits in 1.2 innings of relief.
 
Brittany Gonzales (9-13) allowed six runs on seven hits in three innings. Lauren Kendall allowed four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
 
Emily Todd (2-2) led DSU. Eight-of-nine UAH batters had at least a hit in game two.
 
DSU is back in action on Sunday, April 21 for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with the University of West Alabama. The games will be carried live on the Lady Statesmen Sports Network.
