Statesmen Fall 2-0 to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Delta State University men's soccer team closed out a two game road trip in Cleveland, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon. The Statesmen dropped their Gulf South Conference match with Lee University by a score of 2-0. Delta State drops to 0-5-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in conference play, while Lee improves to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Delta State entered this game after losing a tough conference matchup against Shorter by a score of 4-3.

The Statesmen faced some adversity early on when Lee was the first to put a tally on the board. Just three minutes into the match, Lee had the 1-0 advantage over Delta State. For the rest of the first half, neither team could execute to find the back of the net. The score at half time stood 1-0 in favor of Lee.

Fifty minutes stood between the first goal and the second. A Lee goal at the 53:32 mark put the Flames up 2-0 over Delta State with 37 minutes left in the game. The Statesmen managed to get 12 shots off with four shots on goal but Lee was able to hold off Delta State's offensive attack. The score remained tilted in Lee's favor through the end of regulation to give the Flames the 2-0 win over Delta State.

Delta State was outshot by Lee 17 to 12 and 12 to 4 in shots on goal. Leonardo Rodrigues and Bryce Childers led the Statesmen with three shots and one shot on goal apiece. Milos Boskovis was in goal for Delta State, recording ten saves and allowing two goals while playing all 90 minutes.

The Statesmen return home for a conference matchup against the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, Sept. 27. Delta State will kick off against the Chargers at 3:30 p.m. at Delta Field.
