Statesmen Soccer Falls 1-0 in GSC Play Against Alabama-Huntsville

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The men's soccer team of Delta State University matched up against the University of Alabama at Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action on Friday afternoon. The Statesmen fell 1-0 to the Chargers to drop to 0-6-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in conference play, while the Alabama-Huntsville improves to 3-3-1 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Both teams entered this match in search of their first Gulf South Conference win. Offense was slow on both sides of the ball as there was only one goal in the 90 minutes of play.

The lone goal came in the first half at the 21:52 mark on a Charger goal by Kyle Simmons to give Alabama-Huntsville the early 1-0 lead. The score stood at 1-0 going into halftime.

Both offensive attacks by the Statesmen and Chargers were not able to execute in the second half as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Chargers 1-0 lead was enough to take the win over the Statesmen.
Delta State was outshot by Alabama-Huntsville 16-7. The two squads combined for seven shots on goal for the entire game with the Chargers recording four and the Statesmen recording three.

Jaxon Lambert led the way for the Statesmen with two shots and one shot on goal. Five Statesmen recorded one shot each coming from Fraser Pain, Joe Stockglausner, Jack Pilley, Sebastian Knabke, and Abraheem Saleh.

Milos Boskovic was in goal for Delta State for his fourth straight start in the net. He recorded three saves while allowing the lone goal of the match.

Up next for the Statesmen is a conference match up against Union University at Delta Field. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m.
