Statesmen Soccer falls to Spring Hill 1-0

MOBILE, Ala. – The Delta State University Statesmen soccer team traveled to Mobile, Ala. to face the Spring Hill Badgers in the 2013 season opener. The Statesmen fell to Spring Hill by a score of 1-0. Delta State drops to 0-1 on the season while Spring Hill improves to 3-1.
 
Defense was solid for both teams in the first half as neither team was able to score. The second half saw one goal from Spring Hill's Salvador Sanchis in the 56th minute of play from a header off of a corner kick to give Spring Hill the 1-0 lead.
 
Delta State managed to get ten shots off and one shot-on-goal during the game but could not find the back of the net. Spring Hill outshot Delta State 11 to 10. Goalie Mack Pytyck recorded three saves for the Statesmen, only allowing one goal.
 
Up next for the Statesmen is another road game against Saint Leo University in Pensacola, Fla. on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 12:30 p.m. The Statesmen open up at home the following week with a conference game against the West Alabama Tigers on Friday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
